Universal design information

If you are the holder of a disability certificate, etc. or if you are a wheelchair user…

  • There is a multipurpose toilet on the 1st floor.
  • Wheelchairs can be borrowed.
  • Please contact us in advance if you plan to visit the Museum with an assistive vehicle.
  • Written communication is accepted at Reception.
  • The Museum can be entered with a guide dog, hearing assistance dog or service dog.

*Admission is free of charge for holders of a physical disability certificate (rehabilitation certificate) or mental disability certificate, and their helpers will be admitted at half-price. Please show your certificate at Reception on the day.


If you are bringing a small child…

  • A diaper changing board is provided in the multipurpose toilet found on the 1st floor.
  • Strollers can be borrowed.
  • There is no nursing room inside the Museum.


Other facilities

  • An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is installed at the entrance.


Museum Shop

The Museum Shop at the Paper Museum stocks a wide range of goods including reference books and museum catalogs published by the Paper Museum as well as various paper-related goods, etc.


The Paper Museum Library is a special library of paper-related books/magazines covering paper, pulp, the paper manufacturing industry, Washi (Japanese paper) and related fields.

The Library is located on the 1st floor of the Paper Museum and is open to all visitors.

How to reserve

You will need to reserve if you…

  1. Have decided on the book(s) you want to browse and the content you want to examine
  2. Want to browse books/valuable books graded by OPAC as “Archive”, “SEC”, “Hitokuratana” or “Special storage room” material, or back issues of magazines published prior to 1960


Paper Museum Library form

Please reserve at least one week in advance. Your reservation will be completed upon contact from a library clerk. If you are in a rush, please contact a library clerk at +81-3-3916-2320.

*When using valuable books, etc., you will need to fill out an application form in addition to your reservation.

Paper Museum Newsletter

This PR newsletter introduces exhibitions and publishes event news and columns, etc. Published annually.

Hyakumanto (One Million Pagodas and Darani Prayers)

Paper Museum bulletin publishing studies of Washi and Western paper, travel journals, and more. Published three times a year. Hyakumanto can be bought at the Museum Shop. If you would like to make a subscription, we recommend joining the Paper Museum Associates.
